Leah C. Martin, MA                Creative professional

My experience ranges from non-profits to small businesses to corporate America, giving me a variety of expertise in writing, editing, and proofreading magazines, books, commercial scripts, direct mail, email, and web content. I have design experience with books, forms, the web, graphics, and print. My experience and education, combined with my skills and integrity make me a valuable asset. My creative experience also includes photography, video, and music.

My professional career is expanding rapidly. Not only am I making strides in the corporate world, but I am also making a name for myself through my personal brand.

A Strong Foundation
As an aspiring writer, my ultimate goal is to use language to be an influential voice in this world. As my professional career continues, I take the principles that I've learned through my experiences with me. As a History major, I have grasped the knowledge of various cultures and learned research skills that allow me to dig deep and find meaning of how the past paves the road to the future. With a Master's in Journalism, I have honed my writing and research skills to prepare the way to a fulfilling career.

A Wide View
Much of my experience lies in the fields of multimedia and marketing, covering areas of both print and digital streams, as a writer and editor. I have worked in the television broadcast industry, as well as for non-profit organizations, publishing companies, and Fortune 500 financial companies. Spanning this spectrum has given me a well-rounded perspective of what it takes to be successful in the industry.

A True Character
God has gifted me with a creative talent that allows my artistic expression to flow freely and easily. I am independent and accountable for my responsibilites, and I also work well with people. I anticipate a need and act quickly to bring about resolution. I am well organized, attentive to detail, flexible, a quick learner, and able to multi-task. In all my professional ambitions, I walk in integrity, holding myself to a high standard of excellence in all I do.

An Ambitious Future
I have set many goals for myself. My career ambitions include: be well-established in a prominent company; continue to develop my brand; expand ministry impact.

Martin Luther King III brings message of hope to VCU

Be guided by your dreams, not distracted by your fears.

This was the message that Martin Luther King III offered to students, faculty and the community during his talk Sunday evening at Virginia Commonwealth University.

‘Racists go home!’

(2017 Virginia Press Association award winning article for general news writing)

Members of Tenn.-based neo-Confederate group met by hundreds of chanting counterprotesters at Saturday’s Monument Avenue rally

Stories to inspire a better community being told

The Hippodrome Theater in Richmond’s historic Jackson Ward was buzzing Saturday evening as 400 people of all ages and races — from young adult hipsters to older city dwellers — mingled with drinks in hand while a DJ rocked the turntables.

They were there for “Secret Stories of Self-Determined Change,” a sold-out event organized by UnMonumental in collaboration with Untold RVA and Secretly Y’all.
